TORONTO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The inaugural Canada Investment Summit concluded on Tuesday in Toronto, Canada's largest city, securing nearly 500 billion Canadian dollars (about 359 billion U.S. dollars) in new investment and financing commitments.
The summit convened global investors from nearly 30 countries and regions who manage more than 100 trillion Canadian dollars in assets.
According to summit outcomes released by the Prime Minister's Office, Canada's top commercial banks committed nearly 325 billion Canadian dollars in new financing for Canadian businesses and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Canada's leading pension funds, insurers and institutional investors committed nearly 100 billion Canadian dollars in new capital to domestic assets.
Among these commitments, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Brookfield Asset Management launched the 50-billion-Canadian-dollar Maple Fund to invest in critical infrastructure and strategic industries across the country.
Earlier at the summit, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a package of tax incentives to strengthen Canada's competitive position among Group of Seven nations and attract new business investment amid escalating trade tensions with the United States, which have weighed on businesses. ■
