MEXICO CITY, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Two Mexican navy vessels carrying over 814 tonnes of humanitarian aid arrived in Cuba, the Mexican Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
The aid, including food and hygiene items, was sent under "the instruction of the President Claudia Sheinbaum," the ministry said. "The Mexican people keep alive the solidarity with the Latin American people, especially, the Cuban people."
Mexico will send 1,500 tonnes of powdered milk and beans in the coming days, it said.
The aid shipment comes amid diplomatic tensions in the region, following a decree by U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to impose tariffs on countries that supply oil to the island.
In face of the threat, Sheinbaum said that Mexico would seek talks with the United States to continue sending humanitarian aid and petroleum to the island country, stressing Mexico's longstanding solidarity with the Cuban people. ■
