MOSCOW, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Russian container ship Yanina has sunk following an attack by Ukrainian naval drones in the Black Sea, and all 17 crew members aboard have been rescued, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom announced Saturday.
Rosatom said on social media that the vessel was attacked on Friday at around 10 p.m. Moscow time (1900 GMT) by two Ukrainian naval drones, about 130 nautical miles (241 km) from Novorossiysk. The strike caused damage and the ship later sank.
Alexei Likhachev, director general of Rosatom, said the civilian container ship was sailing in international waters and carrying commercial cargo at the time of the incident.
"All 17 crew members were rescued and are feeling well," Likhachev said, noting that the rescue was carried out with assistance from naval aviation units from Russia's Black Sea Fleet and the international crew of the vessel Delphinus. ■
