LISBON, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The Portuguese economy grew by 1.4 percent in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE) on Tuesday.
The figure represents a slowdown compared to the previous quarter when the economy recorded a year-on-year growth of 2.1 percent.
"The positive contribution of domestic demand to the year-on-year variation of GDP decreased in the first quarter, with a slowdown in investment and private consumption." explained the INE.
The contribution of net external demand "was zero, after being positive in the previous quarter," said the INE. ■
