MINSK, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Rescue units of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia, member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), will take part in joint exercises in Belarus in September, the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations said Monday.
The "Skala-2023" exercises will take place from Sept. 1 to 6 in Belarus. The drills will be aimed at "strengthening the coordination of action in response to complex emergencies," according to the ministry.
In the first phase of the drills, rescue forces will conduct exercises aimed at "ensuring nuclear and radiation safety," in which rescuers will focus on eliminating the consequences of accidents at nuclear facilities.
During the course of the exercises, rescue teams will also perform rescue operations, and participate in the 14th meeting of the Coordinating Council for Emergency Situations of the CSTO Member States. ■
