SOFIA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- One Bulgarian policeman was killed on Monday evening while inspecting the fence on the country's border with Türkiye, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement Tuesday.
Petar Todorov, secretary general of Bulgaria's Interior Ministry, told reporters that the policeman and a soldier were patrolling along the border by car when they noticed a cut in the fence.
The policeman got out of the patrol vehicle and directed a flashlight to the cut in the fence, but a shot immediately followed, and the policeman was killed with the first shot, said Todorov.
The unknown shooters fired another 10-15 shots, but the other participant in the patrol managed to hide behind the vehicle and remained unharmed, he said.
"The perpetrator is believed to be on Turkish territory," said the ministry, adding that an investigation is underway to determine the murderer. ■
