KABUL, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched several major road construction and rehabilitation projects aimed at improving local infrastructure and regional connectivity for Ghor and Nangarhar provinces, the official Bakhtar news agency reported on Monday.
In Ghor province, work on 122 kilometers of key roads has been completed at a cost exceeding 60 million afghanis (nearly 1 million U.S. dollars). The roads include sections of the Ghor-Herat, Ghor-Daykundi, and Ghor-Faryab roads, improving travel, trade, and access between provinces, the report said.
In Nangarhar province, construction has begun on a 1.35-kilometer road in the city of Jalalabad, the provincial capital, with a budget of 25 million afghanis. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the current fiscal year, according to provincial officials.
Local residents have welcomed the initiatives, describing the new roads as a vital step toward addressing long-standing transportation challenges and enhancing daily life in the region. ■
