NEW DELHI, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- India's retail inflation rose to 2.75 percent in January this year with the revised base year 2024, the latest government data showed Thursday.

Officials said the base has been revised from 2012 to 2024 using the household consumption expenditure survey 2023-24.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) said it was releasing the Consumer Price Index (CPI) with 2024 base for enhancing the coverage and representativeness of the inflation measure.

According to MoSPI data, the inflation based on CPI in January 2026 is 2.75 percent.

Corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban areas are 2.73 percent and 2.77 percent, respectively, and the food inflation under the revised series rose to 2.13 percent.

According to officials, the price data are collected from selected 1,407 urban markets (including online markets) and 1,465 villages covering all states through personal visits by field staff.
