NEW DELHI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A 10-year-old girl was killed Tuesday after inadvertently stepping over an improvised explosive device (IED), suspected to be planted by Naxals, in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, police said.

The blast went off inside a forest area near Digha village under Jaraikele police station limits in West Singhbhum district, about 180 km south of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand.

According to police, the victim had gone inside the forest to collect siali leaves.

Police have registered a case and sent the body to Chakradharpur for post-mortem examination.

Government forces suspect the Naxalites planted multiple IEDs in the area to target patrolling teams.
