YANGON, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized 5 tons of ice (methamphetamine) in central Myanmar's Mandalay Region, the official television channel MRTV citing police sources reported on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the country's anti-narcotic police searched a 12-wheeled oil tanker truck in Kyaukse Township of Mandalay Region on May 1 and confiscated the narcotic substance, the report said.

The seized narcotics are intended to be transported abroad via sea route, it said.

The seized narcotics are worth approximately 100 billion kyats (about 47 million U.S. dollars), the report said.

Two suspects were arrested for the case, and further investigation was underway, the report added.
