BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Brunei recorded 704.2 million Brunei dollars (527.6 million U.S. dollars) trade balance for January 2023, a 108.2 percent year-on-year increase contributed by a rise in export and a drop in import value.

Brunei's exports in January increased by 20.8 percent yearly to 1,586.6 million Brunei dollars, mainly due to the increase in mineral fuels exports, showed statistics released on Friday by the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

Imports decreased from 974.6 million Brunei dollars in January 2022 to 882.4 million Brunei dollars in January 2023, mainly due to a decrease in imports of mineral fuels.

The highest share of exports in January 2023 went to Japan (26.0 percent), followed by Australia (16.9 percent), Singapore (14.9 percent) and China (10.2 percent).

The biggest import partner was Malaysia (25.2 percent), followed by the United Arab Emirates (16.9 percent) and China (14.2 percent), with mineral fuels as the largest import commodity. (1 Brunei dollar equals about 0.75 U.S. dollar).
