DHAKA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least four bodies were recovered Thursday after a fishing vessel capsized in the Karnaphuli river in Chattogram, some 242 km southeast of capital Dhaka.
Ekram Ullah, officer-in-charge of Chattogram's Sadarghat River Police Station, told journalists that members of the River Police and the Coast Guard recovered the bodies from different places in the river in separate rescue operations in collaboration with local people on Thursday.
He said three people, including two crew members, remain missing. A search operation is underway for the people still missing, he added.
The police official said rescuers had been working against a strong current and choppy river waters.
According to the official, the fishing vessel FV Magferat, carrying 21 persons including 15 crew members, was being pulled to the Sea Resources Dockyard at the Ichhanagar area on the southern bank of the Karnaphuli river for revamp early Wednesday, but its propeller reportedly broke and it veered out of control and smashed into other fishing boats and buoys near the jetty before capsizing, leaving seven people on board missing. ■
