Singapore's manufacturing PMI rises to 50.4 in May

SINGAPORE, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The Singapore purchasing managers' index (PMI), an early indicator of manufacturing activity, edged up 0.1 points from the previous month to post a slightly faster rate of expansion at 50.4 this May.

The overall manufacturing sector has expanded for 23 consecutive months, said the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management on Thursday.

Singapore's electronics sector PMI fell 0.2 points from April to record a slower rate of expansion at 50.5 in May. This is the 22nd month of expansion for the electronics sector.

A PMI reading above 50 indicates expansion, while that below 50 indicates contraction.
