WINDHOEK, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Namibian Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi on Wednesday officially opened a newly constructed bridge over the Aris River, located about 30 km south of the capital, Windhoek.
The bridge, which connects Windhoek to the southern regions of the country, was declared "unsafe and impassable" last year after severe flooding, and its closure threatened the flow of goods and people along one of Namibia's key economic routes.
"In a demonstration of intelligent resource deployment, China Railway Seventh Group, already mobilized in the vicinity for the Windhoek-Hosea Kutako International Airport road project, was rapidly engaged to implement emergency measures," Nekundi said. He praised the Chinese firm for the timely completion of the project.
"Work commenced immediately in March 2025 and was completed on schedule in March 2026, a 12-month delivery that speaks to the professionalism and dedication of all parties involved," he said.
China Railway Seventh Group's mobilization, expertise, and commitment to delivering quality work under tight timeframes have been exemplary, he added. ■
