ABIDJAN, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Fuel prices in Cote d'Ivoire have remained stable for April, with premium gasoline set at 820 CFA francs (about 1.45 U.S. dollars) per liter and diesel at 675 CFA francs, despite a rise in global oil prices driven by the conflict in the Middle East.

According to a statement from the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, which sets the maximum retail prices of petroleum products for the period from April 1 to April 30, a liter of premium gasoline continues to be sold at 820 CFA francs at the pump.

Premium gasoline prices have gradually declined over the past year, falling from 875 CFA francs to 855 CFA francs in April 2025, then to 830 CFA francs in September, before easing further by 10 CFA francs on Nov. 1 to stabilize at the current level.

Diesel, widely used in the transport sector, has been maintained at 675 CFA francs for the April period. The price has remained unchanged since last September, following a drop from 715 CFA francs to 700 CFA francs in April 2025.

In the West African country, petroleum product prices are adjusted monthly in line with international market trends under an automatic pricing mechanism.

Following hydrocarbon discoveries at the Baleine field in 2021 and the Calao field in 2024, the country is targeting oil production of 200,000 barrels per day by 2030, up from less than 100,000 currently, as it seeks to position itself among Africa's leading oil producers.
