KHARTOUM, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 17 others injured on Sunday in a drone attack targeting a military hospital in the city of Dilling, South Kordofan State, according to a medical source and eyewitnesses.

A doctor at the hospital, who requested anonymity, told Xinhua that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a drone that fired two missiles at the Medical Corps Hospital.

"The first missile struck a clinic, killing eight people and wounding about 10 others, including patients and their companions," the doctor said, adding that "the second missile landed in the hospital courtyard, injuring more than seven people."

An eyewitness said the drone hit two locations in the city -- the Medical Corps Hospital and a warehouse near a market.

He added that several people were also wounded in the city center and taken to a nearby hospital, with some injuries described as serious.

The RSF has not commented on the incident.

Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, and Dilling, the state's second-largest city, have been under siege by the RSF and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North, led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, since the early months of the war and have been subjected to repeated artillery and drone attacks.

In recent weeks, the Kordofan region -- comprising North, West and South Kordofan states -- has seen an escalation in fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, leading to the displacement of tens of thousands of people, according to the United Nations.

Sudan has been engulfed in a deadly conflict since April 15, 2023, when fighting broke out between the SAF and the RSF, leaving tens of thousands dead and millions displaced within the country and across its borders.
