YAOUNDE, May 30 (Xinhua) -- At least five people, including one civilian, have been killed overnight into Tuesday in two Boko Haram raids in Cameroon's Far North Region, security and local sources confirmed on Tuesday.

A senior army source said the militants of the terror group came to the Mora locality of the region at about 2:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday and attacked a mixed security checkpoint, killing one police officer, two customs officers and a civilian. A local official told Xinhua by phone that one customs officer was injured in the attack.

The army source said the militants also attacked a military outpost in the Zigague locality of the region late Monday, killing a young soldier.

"In Zigague, our soldiers succeeded in repelling the attack and killed two of the terrorists and seized their weapons. We are stepping up security in the entire region," the source said.

Cameroon's semi-arid Far North Region has been a target of Boko Haram suicide bombings and raids since 2014.
