KAPENGURIA, Kenya, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Five people on Thursday were killed by bandits who attacked a village in Kenya's northwestern county of West Pokot, local officials confirmed.
West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello said the heavily armed bandits from a neighboring county also drove away livestock during the raid, adding that security personnel has intensified surveillance to ward off cattle rustling in the volatile and semi-arid Kenya's northern frontier districts.
A multi-agency operation is already underway in Kenya's northwestern counties that neighbor South Sudan to flush out bandits who are responsible for cattle rustling, killing, and maiming of civilians. ■
