LONDON, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile and caught fire south of Iran's Lavan Island on Friday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.
The crew were reported safe, and no environmental impact had been reported at the time of the warning.
The incident occurred at 18:00 UTC on Friday, approximately 40 nautical miles (74 km) south of Lavan Island, according to the UKMTO.
The vessel's master reported that the projectile struck the port side, causing a fire on board.
The warning did not identify the vessel, its type or flag, or say whether the fire had been brought under control. Authorities are investigating.
The UKMTO advised vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity. ■
