SANAA, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 12 people were killed and three others critically wounded on Thursday in airstrikes on two residential houses in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz, the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The outlet claimed the strikes hit homes in the Al-Barh area of Maqbanah district in western Taiz, blaming what it described as "Saudi aggression" for the attack, without providing further details.

There was no immediate comment from Saudi Arabia or Yemen's internationally recognized government on the reported strikes and casualties.

The reported airstrikes came as fighting intensified across Taiz, where Houthi forces and government forces have been battling on multiple fronts for control of the strategically important province.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Monday that severe access restrictions in Taiz, Yemen's third-largest city, have pushed health needs to critical levels amid shortages of medicine, fuel and water.

OCHA said continued fighting has also led to a buildup of uncollected waste, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and much of the north, prompting the Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the government. ■
