ACCRA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's under-23 men's football coach Desmond Ofei has expressed confidence that his side can overcome Libya in next month's two-legged qualifier as the country seeks to return to the Olympic Games for the first time since 2004.

The Black Meteors will travel to Tripoli for the first leg during the November 9-17 international window before hosting Libya in the return fixture.

"I believe we can qualify because I feel the time is right. It has been far too long, and we are preparing well," Ofei said.

"I am 100 percent certain that we will qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games. We will exert every effort to defeat Libya. In March, we will take on any opponent, and we will be ready for that."

Ofei also expressed confidence in the talent available to Ghana as his side prepares for the qualifying campaign.

"The boys are hungry to prove to the nation that there is a lot of talent in this country and that Ghana is one of the best footballing nations in Africa," he said.

Ghana last competed in the men's Olympic football tournament at the 2004 Athens Games and is seeking to end a 24-year absence from the competition.

The winner of the tie will advance to the next stage of qualifying for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, which will serve as the final African qualifying tournament for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The top two teams at that tournament will secure Olympic berths. ■
