BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Facundo Herrera struck late as Boca Juniors clinched a 1-0 away win over Independiente in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 88th minute when Herrera met Sebastian Villa's delivery from a corner with a diving header that beat Santiago Mele at his near post.
The hosts had several chances to score but could not find a way past goalkeeper Alvaro Montero, who made a series of sharp second-half saves.
"Today was an entertaining match that saw two teams looking to score at every opportunity," Boca manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena told a post-match press conference.
"We had a lot of possession in the first half, and in the second half they came at us and created chances. We played a solid game. We just needed to be more precise in attack."
Boca now has 27 points in the 15-team Zone A, two behind leader Instituto Cordoba, which has a game in hand. Independiente has 19 points.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Sunday, Aldosivi won 1-0 at home to Belgrano and River Plate secured a 1-0 home win over Racing. ■
