TASHKENT, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's Chen Yi and Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto respectively claimed the women's and men's singles titles at the 2026 ITTF-ATTU Asian Championships on Sunday.
Chen, 22, showed great form on the last competition day to sweep her teammate Wang Yidi in the semifinals before beating Japan's Miwa Harimoto in straight games 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 in the final later in the day.
"This tournament is definitely a valuable experience for me. I lost two matches in the women's team final. Together with Huang Youzheng, we were defeated by Miwa and Sora Matsushima in the mixed doubles final," said Chen. "I am really grateful for my teammates and coaches. They trust me and encourage me a lot."
"I kept a stable mindset and tried my best to challenge her [Miwa] today. I became more decisive in returns and finally took the victory. This is the best reward for my team," Chen noted.
In the men's final, Tomokazu came back from two games down to edge China's 19-year-old Li Tianyang 1-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7.
