KABUL, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have confiscated a substantial cache of firearms and ammunition in northern Baghlan province, the official Bakhtar News Agency reported on Wednesday evening.
Acting on intelligence and a tip-off, personnel launched a series of targeted operations on the outskirts of Bano, Dih Salah and Puli Hisar districts, recovering 10 AK-47 assault rifles, four machine guns, five pistols, hand grenades, a large quantity of ammunition and assorted military equipment, said the report.
The report did not disclose whether any suspects were detained in connection with the haul.
Authorities reiterated that police will not tolerate the unauthorized smuggling, carrying or possession of ammunition or military equipment.
The Afghan government continues to collect thousands of weapons and extensive stockpiles of ammunition nationwide as part of broader efforts to consolidate security in the conflict-affected country and foster a safer environment for reconstruction and development. ■
