BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- As Tuesday marks a full year since the establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said it is hoped that more countries would join the IOMed and make good use of it.
Over the past year, the IOMed has received broad support and positive response from the international community, Mao told a regular news briefing on the same day.
"The number of founding member states has risen to 48. It has successfully mediated international commercial dispute cases and received high recognition from the disputing parties," Mao said.
Noting that the IOMed is committed to providing a new platform for all parties to settle disputes in a peaceful and friendly way, Mao said that it is an important public good for the rule of law presented to the international community.
It is hoped that more countries would join the IOMed and make good use of it, together making new contributions to the peaceful resolution of international disputes and to promoting world peace and development, she said. ■
