DAMASCUS, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Syria's state postal service dispatched its first batch of international parcels to five countries on Thursday, marking the resumption of outbound postal shipments after more than a decade of suspension, state news agency SANA reported.
The Syrian Postal Corporation sent the parcels to the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, Algeria and Qatar, as part of efforts to restore the country's postal connections with the rest of the world, according to SANA.
The dispatch followed the corporation's announcement on Oct. 1 that it had resumed international parcel services through the Universal Postal Union (UPU) network, after restoring its capacity to receive shipments from abroad.
International parcel reception resumed on July 1, with the first incoming shipment arriving from neighboring Jordan on July 5 through Damascus International Airport.
The restoration of international postal services is part of broader efforts to rebuild Syria's communications and logistics infrastructure after years of conflict and economic disruption. ■
