KATHMANDU, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Remittance inflows and foreign exchange reserves in Nepal increased in the first two months of the 2026-27 fiscal year, the central bank said on Thursday.
In its monthly report, Nepal Rastra Bank said remittance inflows rose 13.5 percent year on year to 2.85 billion U.S. dollars between mid-July and mid-September.
The increase in remittance inflows came despite a slight decline in the number of Nepalis leaving the country for foreign employment.
A total of 130,483 Nepalis, including first-time workers and those renewing their work permits, left for foreign employment between mid-July and mid-September, compared to 136,084 during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Likewise, gross foreign exchange reserves rose 4.6 percent to 26.48 billion dollars in mid-September from 25.31 billion dollars in mid-July, according to the report.
"Based on the imports of the two months of 2026-27, the foreign exchange reserves are sufficient to cover the prospective merchandise imports of 20.9 months, and merchandise and services imports of 17.8 months," the report said. ■
