BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao on Thursday met with Tim Cook, executive chairman of the board of directors of Apple Inc., exchanging views on topics including China-U.S. economic and trade relations, artificial intelligence (AI) development and Apple's business in China, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce.
Guided by the consensus reached by the two heads of state on building a constructive bilateral relationship of strategic stability based on respect, fairness and reciprocity, China-U.S. economic and trade consultations have yielded positive results, Wang said.
China advocates the safe and controllable development of AI, its inclusive and beneficial use, and cooperation in AI governance, Wang said, expressing the hope that Apple would serve as a bridge of communication and contribute to the sustained, stable and sound development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
China remains firmly committed to expanding high-standard opening up and improving its business environment, while its consumer market continues to expand and upgrade and its green supply chains are growing, Wang said. These developments will create greater scope for multinational companies to invest in China in smarter, greener and more innovative areas, he added.
He also expressed the hope that Apple would continue to deepen its presence in the Chinese market and share in opportunities arising from Chinese modernization.
Apple is optimistic about China's development prospects and will further expand its business in the country, and the company is willing to play a positive role in promoting stable and healthy U.S.-China economic and trade relations, Cook said. ■
