TOKYO, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- A fire that broke out at a plastics factory warehouse in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, early Monday was still burning more than 24 hours later, according to local media. No injuries have been reported.
The fire started shortly after 5 a.m. local time on Monday at the factory, which makes plastic products such as PET bottles, in the town of Nakagawa.
A total of 38 fire engines and emergency vehicles had been deployed, but the blaze had yet to be extinguished as of 7 a.m. Tuesday, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing police and firefighters.
The flames had weakened, but plastic products stored in the roughly 800-square-meter warehouse were still burning. The building had also collapsed, leaving debris scattered across the site and making it difficult to pinpoint the source of the fire. Firefighters were continuing to battle the blaze, the report said.
Although the factory operates around the clock, no employees were inside the warehouse when the fire broke out, and all workers were safely evacuated. ■
