CANBERRA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- A teenage girl has died after being allegedly assaulted in a remote Outback community in Australia's Northern Territory (NT) on Monday morning.
The NT police force said it was notified around 5:30 a.m. on Monday that a 16-year-old girl had died at a clinic in the community of Alpurrurulam, over 1,000 km southeast of Darwin near the NT's border with the state of Queensland, following an alleged physical assault.
NT police deployed detectives and forensics units to the town to join local police investigating the incident.
The health clinic in Alpurrurulam was briefly closed earlier in October when two nurses were escorted out of the community by police after being threatened by residents. ■
