MOSCOW, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday that Moscow wanted someone in the Ukrainian leadership to demonstrate the political will to recognize realities on the ground and work toward a peaceful settlement.
Peskov made the remarks in an interview with RIA Novosti in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's comments on replacing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On Saturday, Trump told journalists that it was time for Ukraine to elect a new president. He said Zelensky could have brought the Russia-Ukraine conflict to an end on several occasions but did not want to do so.
On Sunday, Zelensky told ABC News that he was ready to hold presidential elections in Ukraine if Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a 60-day ceasefire. ■
