MELBOURNE, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- One person was taken to hospital following an incident in central Melbourne on Sunday, near the route of the Melbourne Marathon, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, responded to the incident near the intersection of Flinders and Elizabeth streets in Melbourne's central business district, according to the ABC.
A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said paramedics were called to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. local time and one person was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Witnesses told the ABC that a car was driving erratically along Flinders and Elizabeth streets.
The incident occurred close to the Melbourne Marathon course, which passed by Flinders Street Station near Swanston Street, with thousands of runners taking part in the event.
Elizabeth Street was open, but a large police presence remained in the area, the report said. ■
