WELLINGTON, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Two people died and two others were seriously injured on Saturday and a homicide investigation has been launched in Christchurch, the largest city on New Zealand's South Island, police said.
Two others were in custody assisting police with enquiries in the suburb of Phillipstown, Christchurch, according to a police statement.
Police were called to an address on Olliviers Road at about 12:50 a.m. local time, Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves said in the statement.
Police believed the incident was isolated and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case at this stage, Reeves said, adding that there was no risk to public safety.
Police expect an increased presence in the area over the coming days as scene examinations continue. ■
