CANBERRA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A 29-year-old man has been charged after allegedly shooting at a vehicle and seriously injuring a teenage passenger in Canberra, Australian police said on Saturday.
According to a statement from Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Policing, four teenagers were travelling in a car in the southern Canberra suburb of Conder at about 10 p.m. local time on Friday when they encountered another vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle allegedly followed the teenagers' car before opening fire, striking a passenger in the back seat.
The teenagers contacted police and were directed to a nearby police station, where officers provided first aid to the injured passenger before he was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Police established a crime scene and subsequently arrested a 29-year-old man at his home in the suburb of Gordon.
The man, who was subject to parole conditions, was charged with using a firearm to endanger human life and was scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday.
Police have appealed for witnesses and CCTV footage as investigations continue. ■
