KABUL, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Authorities have begun extracting salt from a salt mine in Afghanistan's western Farah province, the provincial director of mines said Friday.
Covering 13 hectares in Qalakah and the neighboring Pusht-e-Koh district, the project, with an investment of 15 million afghani (about 233,000 U.S. dollars), is expected to produce 15,000 tons of salt, the official said.
The project has also created job opportunities for about 100 people, the official added. ■
