MADRID, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Deportivo La Coruna striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is philosophical about the knee injury that put a halt to his excellent start to the season with the recently promoted club.
Aubameyang had started the campaign with five goals in Deportivo's opening six matches on its return to La Liga, but damaged his right meniscus playing against Betis on the eve of the international break and needed an operation.
"I don't know how much time is left, but I'm improving every day. I'm off the crutches now. I'm walking a little at a time. I'm starting on the bike, but the most important thing is not feeling any discomfort in the knee," he commented at a press event held on Thursday.
Aubameyang explained he had been told he could be back in action in "six to eight weeks," but insisted he would take his recovery "step by step."
"The time will be determined by when I get out on the pitch and start running. I think that will be the most important part; that's when you get a real feel for things and see how you're actually doing," he commented, before insisting that he would "100 percent" repeat his trademark back-flip goal celebration.
The 37-year-old, who has played for Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, FC Barcelona and Chelsea, joined Deportivo this summer from Olympique Marseille, insisted it was "the first time in my career I've been injured for more than ten days," and admitted it had been "tough to deal with mentally," although he prefers to look on the bright side.
"I've got a new knee, and it's time to get started," he concluded. ■
