AMMAN, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's King Abdullah II and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region, according to a statement from Jordan's Royal Hashemite Court.
During a phone call, King Abdullah II stressed the need to reach an agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire that guarantees the security and sovereignty of Arab states, while highlighting the U.S. role in supporting efforts to achieve regional stability.
The king also briefed Rubio on the outcomes of recent meetings held in France, which focused on mobilizing international support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and enhancing its capabilities to maintain Lebanon's security and stability.
He warned of the consequences of Israel's escalation in southern Syria and reaffirmed Jordan's support for Syria's efforts to strengthen its security, stability and territorial sovereignty.
The call also addressed ways to further enhance the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States across various fields. ■
