MELBOURNE, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- One teenage boy has died and two others have been hospitalized with serious injuries following a collision between two vehicles in the Australian island state of Tasmania.
Emergency services were called to reports that a utility had collided with another car traveling in the opposite direction in northwest Tasmania around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday.
A 15-year-old boy, who police believe was driving the utility, died at the scene.
Two passengers in the utility, both boys aged 14, were seriously injured. One was airlifted to hospital and the other was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The 61-year-old male driver of the other car and his 60-year-old female passenger both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police closed the road where the collision occurred for about six hours while investigators gathered evidence.
The minimum age to legally drive in Tasmania without an adult supervisory driver present is 17. ■
