HANOI, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's State Treasury raised more than 27 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 1.05 billion U.S. dollars) through a government bond auction last week, the highest amount raised on record, according to S&I Ratings, an independent credit rating service provider in Vietnam, local media outlet VnExpress reported Monday.
The treasury offered 33 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 1.29 billion dollars) in bonds across different maturities, the report said, adding that 10-year bonds proved the most popular, with bids from investors exceeding the planned offering of 20 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 780.28 million dollars), while demand for three- and 30-year bonds was modest.
The strong demand came as government bond yields rose to around 4.1-4.3 percent for five- and 10-year maturities, up from around 4 percent early this year.
The government bond market has heated up amid strong demand for medium- and long-term funding for major public investment projects, while the treasury is also under pressure to meet its annual fundraising target of 500 trillion Vietnamese dong (19.5 billion dollars). It has so far achieved just over 53 percent of that target, the report added. ■
