CAIRO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Egypt welcomes Chinese investment and seeks to expand business cooperation in areas including desalination, artificial intelligence and digitalization services, Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh said at a press conference on Thursday.
Responding to a question from Xinhua, Saleh praised the performance of some Chinese companies in Egypt, citing their entry into industries such as fiberglass, which he said had not previously been represented in the country.
He said Egypt welcomes investors who comply with its laws and regulations and seeks to support them while ensuring a level playing field for all.
Saleh said the number of Chinese companies operating in Egypt had risen significantly, estimating that it had exceeded 3,000.
The minister highlighted trade missions and exhibitions as ways to expand bilateral cooperation, adding that Egypt was seeking to identify specific projects for further cooperation.
He said the government was working to address both broader challenges affecting the business environment and specific difficulties faced by individual companies.
Saleh said the government welcomed greater cooperation between the two countries' private sectors and saw its role as creating the platforms and conditions to facilitate such partnerships.
Egypt is working to facilitate such cooperation through exhibitions, trade and investment missions, and other business-to-business initiatives, he added. ■
