BRISBANE, Australia, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Critical Minerals Conference 2026 opened on Monday here, with a focus on industry growth, investment and supply chain resilience.
Organized by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), the three-day conference aims to "lead the critical minerals conversation" by bringing together industry, government, finance and research representatives to exchange views and explore opportunities for sector growth.
In his opening address, AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin said rebuilding community trust was essential for Australia to become a critical minerals powerhouse.
The Premier of the Australian state of Queensland, David Crisafulli, pointed to Queensland's mineral resources, skills, research capability, planning framework and state investment as strengths that could support further development of the sector.
This year's program features 58 presentations and three panel discussions. Over the coming days, delegates will explore investment and finance, processing technologies, resource development and sustainability, while associated workshops and technical tours are scheduled following the main conference. ■
