3 Palestinians killed in Israeli fire across Gaza: sources
At least three Palestinians were killed and 20 others injured on Monday by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinians sources.
Palestinian medical sources told Xinhua that a young man died from injuries sustained after being shot by an Israeli drone in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.
The sources added that a child was killed after being struck in the chest by gunfire from Israeli military vehicles targeting displaced persons' tents in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
In a separate incident, the sources reported that a 31-year-old Palestinian woman died from wounds sustained from Israeli army gunfire on Salah al-Din Street, east of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
Iranian president to attend UNGA session -- state media
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian will leave Tehran for New York on Tuesday to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the official news agency IRNA reported.
The announcement was made by Habibollah Abbasi, director general of public relations at the Iranian president's office, in an interview with IRNA published on Monday.
Abbasi said Pezeshkian will deliver a speech at the UNGA's session and hold meetings with other participating countries' leaders and officials during the trip.
Russian ruling party wins State Duma election -- preliminary results
Preliminary results show the ruling United Russia party won 57.83 percent of the votes in the election for the 9th State Duma, the lower house of parliament, Russian Central Election Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova told a press conference Monday.
According to CEC data, after 95.18 percent of the ballots were counted, United Russia led with 57.83 percent of the vote, followed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation with 13.81 percent and the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia with 8.98 percent. New People and A Just Russia garnered 7.96 percent and 4.96 percent of the vote, respectively.
According to the CEC, turnout in this election, held from Friday to Sunday, was 59.32 percent, higher than the 51.72 percent in 2021.
Merz vows coalition stability after state election defeat
German Chancellor and Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz on Monday called his party's state election defeat in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern a "heavy blow," while ruling out any internal leadership challenge.
Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, Merz admitted that the CDU failed to provide satisfactory answers to public concerns.
However, he dismissed allegations of an internal rebellion, stressing that there had been "no personnel debate" regarding his leadership.
On Sunday, the CDU secured only 4.9 percent of the vote in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern election, failing to enter the state parliament for the first time. Meanwhile, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) won the state election with 38.2 percent of the vote, followed by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) with 35.5 percent.
3 U.S. media outlets file lawsuit after being barred from entering White House
Three U.S. news organizations -- CNN, MSNOW and Politico -- said Monday that they are suing U.S. President Donald Trump and several White House officials after being barred from entering the White House.
"This morning, we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit today to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes," the three news organizations said in a joint statement.
"Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists' credentials because it objected to our reporting. Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public's right to independent journalism free from government interference," the statement continued.■
