LIMA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The 3rd Congress of Latin American Sinologists has brought together experts and researchers from China and Latin America in the Peruvian capital to discuss development, connectivity, innovation, and cooperation between China and the region.

Under the theme "From Dialogue to Convergence: Institutionalization, Connectivity, and Common Horizons between Latin America and China," the forum aims to deepen understanding of China and explore new forms of cooperation amid growing global economic, technological, and diplomatic interdependence.

At the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Xu Baofeng, director of the World Center for Sinology at Beijing Language and Culture University, said that Latin America is home to one of the most important academic community in the Global South, adding that China-Latin America relations offer rich empirical cases and theoretical issues for South-South cooperation, and studying these relations can help deepen understanding of the development trajectory of the Global South.

Waldo Mendoza, academic vice rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, said that the congress addresses issues shaping Latin America-China relations, including trans-Pacific connectivity, Chinese-language teaching and cross-cultural exchanges.

The three-day congress, which will last through Thursday, is organized by the Confucius Institute and the Center for Oriental Studies of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, together with the World Center for Sinology at Beijing Language and Culture University.
