DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The 28th Chinese medical team to mainland Tanzania provided specialized training in minimally invasive surgery for cerebral hemorrhage for neurosurgeons at Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI), Tanzania's national super-specialized hospital for orthopedics, trauma and neurosurgery.
The training, conducted on Wednesday and led by Ma Junwei, a neurosurgeon on the Chinese medical team, focused on using a portable surgical visualization device donated by a Chinese medical equipment company.
Ma said the device can connect directly to computers and mobile terminals, providing real-time, high-definition visualization during surgery without relying on large precision equipment such as operating microscopes and endoscopes.
The technology helps reduce intraoperative bleeding and postoperative infection risks, shorten surgery time, minimize surgical trauma and accelerate patient recovery while lowering treatment costs, Ma added.
Laurent Mchome, director of the neurosurgery department at MOI, described the training as practical and closely aligned with clinical needs. He said the donated equipment is easy to operate and will help address gaps in the department's equipment and technical capabilities.
Liu Jia, head of the Chinese medical team, said the training and equipment donation demonstrated the deepening healthcare cooperation between China and Tanzania.
The team will continue providing technical training, hands-on instruction and medical equipment support to strengthen Tanzania's healthcare capacity, Liu said. ■
