TOKYO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Two men were killed after the passenger car they were riding in crashed into a large truck that had rear-ended another on an expressway in Niigata Prefecture, central Japan, on Monday night, local media reported Tuesday.
According to Kyodo News, the driver of one of the large trucks called police at around 11:30 p.m. local time on Monday to report that his vehicle had been rear-ended after breaking down and stopping on the expressway in Minamiuonuma.
The two men in the passenger car, both in their 40s, were transported to the hospital unconscious and in critical condition. Both were later pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck that rear-ended the stopped vehicle, a man in his 60s, sustained serious injuries including facial fractures. The driver of the stopped truck, also in his 60s, suffered minor injuries, the report said. ■
