MEXICO CITY, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday reiterated that her government will not allow foreign intervention or interference in the country's internal affairs, saying relations with the United States must be based on coordination without subordination.
Speaking at her daily press conference, Sheinbaum criticized those who, she said, support foreign intervention, including some sectors in the United States and among Mexico's opposition.
"We will always defend the principle that there should be no intervention, no interference, only coordination, and without subordination," she said. "That will always be our position, by principle, by history, by conviction and because the Constitution says so."
Citing an opinion poll showing that 91 percent of respondents opposed intervention, she said it is "essential to ask who benefits from spreading the idea that Mexicans think otherwise," accusing some U.S. sectors and right-wing media of seeking intervention. ■
