BAGHDAD, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two workers were killed and about 50 others injured on Sunday following an accidental ammonia gas leak at a fertilizer factory in southern Iraq's Basra province, Iraq's Civil Defense Directorate said in a statement.
Civil defense rescue teams extracted 10 trapped employees and recovered two bodies at the State Company of Southern Fertilizers in the Khor al-Zubair area, said the statement.
Approximately 50 people suffering from suffocation were transported for treatment, it said.
Initial inspections pointed to an accidental gas leak, and specialized teams have secured the site and fully contained the situation, it added. ■
