SINGAPORE, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- UK quantum computing company Universal Quantum will establish its first dedicated research and development base outside Europe in Singapore, making the city-state its Asia-Pacific hub.

The new center, initially with a team of 25 and backed by an investment of more than 30 million Singapore dollars (23.7 million U.S. dollars), will draw on Singapore's capabilities in areas ranging from chip development to quantum algorithms, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The move builds on Universal Quantum's partnership with Singapore's National Quantum Office, with support from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and EDBI.

EDBI, the investment arm of SG Growth Capital, has also become a strategic investor in Universal Quantum.
