COLOMBO, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's total revenue rose 27.2 percent year on year in the first six months of 2026, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya told parliament Wednesday.
Total revenue increased to 2.95 trillion Sri Lankan rupees (about 9 billion U.S. dollars) from 2.32 trillion rupees in the corresponding period of 2025, said the prime minister.
Amarasuriya said higher collections by the Inland Revenue Department, Sri Lanka Customs and the Excise Department were the main contributors to the increase in government revenue.
Tax revenue rose 25.9 percent to 2.71 trillion rupees during the period, compared with 2.15 trillion rupees in the first six months of 2025. Non-tax revenue recorded stronger growth, rising 43.6 percent to 243.6 billion rupees from 169.6 billion rupees in 2025.
The Amarasuriya said the increase in non-tax income was partly supported by 42 billion rupees in dividends transferred by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka during the period. ■
