Russia's Tatarstan to host 7th World Nomad Games

BISHKEK, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan has officially passed the baton of hosting the 7th World Nomad Games to Russia's Republic of Tatarstan.

The handover ceremony took place on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the 6th WNG in Cholpon-Ata town of Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz national news agency Kabar reported.

The 7th WNG will be held in Kazan, Tatarstan, in 2028.

Over 600 cultural events, including concerts, international festivals and competitions, were planned for the 6th WNG, Askaraly Madaminov, Kyrgyzstan's deputy minister of culture, information, and youth policy was quoted as saying by Kabar.

"The main goal of the cultural program is to showcase nomadic culture as a living heritage, preserve traditions, present them to the modern world, and create conditions for the further development of cultural tourism and creative industries," Madaminov said.

The 6th WNG was held in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 6, featuring more than 3,000 athletes from 109 countries and regions.

The World Nomad Games is an international cultural and sporting event aimed at preserving and promoting the heritage of nomadic civilizations. Kyrgyzstan hosted the first three editions from 2014 to 2018, before the event moved to Türkiye in 2022 and Kazakhstan in 2024.
